Main UI (TV Mode)
VLC Interface : Guide
The VLC interface on Android TV and TV Box devices is designed to be simple, clean, and fully remote-friendly — featuring large buttons, centered menus, and quick shortcuts to access files, playlists, and network streams & Key Features
Main UI — Layout & Navigation
The main screen includes a sidebar menu (Sources, Playlists, Network, Settings) and a large content area showing folders, media files, or video previews. The design focuses on smooth navigation using D-Pad and OK buttons only.
Remote-First Controls
VLC’s TV Mode is built for remote navigation:
D-Pad (↑↓←→) for browsing, OK for selection, Back to exit, Play/Pause for playback, and number keys for quick list jumps.

UI Design — Key Highlights
- Large & Clear Buttons: Every selectable item should be big enough for D-Pad navigation without a mouse.
- Proper Spacing: Keep distance between menu elements to avoid accidental selections.
- Quick Source Access: Display Local / USB / Network / Streaming options on top for faster browsing.
- Context Menus: Long-press or use a dedicated key to open quick actions (subtitle, audio track, playback speed).
- Subtitle & Audio Shortcuts: Overlay controls appear when pressing Audio or Subtitle buttons for instant adjustments.
Recommended Remote Button Mapping
D-Pad Up / Down : Navigate lists & menus D-Pad Left/Right : Seek (short) or move between tabs OK / Enter : Open / Play / Select Back / Return : Close menu / go back Play / Pause : Toggle play/pause Rewind / Forward : 10s / 30s seek (hold for faster) Number keys : Jump to playlist item (if supported) Long-press OK : Show context menu (rename, delete, add to playlist)
Tips for Better TV Experience
- Readable fonts: Use a clean font size (18–22px for titles) visible from 2–3 meters away.
- Test with real remotes: Try common Android TV remotes (Mi Box, Shield, Chromecast) to ensure smooth navigation.
- Accessibility support: Add focus outlines, alt text for images, and high-contrast highlights for selection states.
Recommended Screenshot Sizes
- Hero / Full-width UI:
1200×520 - Playback overlay:
800×450 - Small preview cards:
600×340
Note: You can replace the placeholder images with real screenshots from your TV Box — especially the main menu and playback screen for more authenticity.
